Having fun with some watercolor.

whale drawings

Just some drawings of whales :) colored pencil on paper

Cuenca

I'm finally just about finished with my drawing scene of the city of Cuenca in ecuador. I'm not sure how I would like to finish this one off with color. I'm thinking because of the amount of detail I might have to stick with the easy way out of digitally just adding a few layers of color, but I'm still deciding so I'll be going back to this after I work on some other new things.

"The Grey"

This is a thumb sketch for another illustration inspired by the movie"The Grey". I was very surprised that the movie wasn't made from a book but from a screen write. And I know most people say it wasn't that great of movie but I really loved the symbolism and the poem from his father... "Once more into the fray, into the last good fight I'll ever know, live and die on this day, live and die on this day"-the grey. It's beautiful and so rich in life's meaning. So I'll be stepping away from my children's work for a while to work a little more on this. I want to do a really detailed drawing first before i decide if I even want to color it.

Las PeƱas (Guayaquil)

A new drawing for an upcoming illustration. This is Las PeƱas in Ecuador. I loved the colors and the style of the houses were so beautiful. This is not an exact area from the Las PeƱas. I kind of created my own version from how it really is.

New work!

Here's a new piece I just finished for my children's portfolio. The final is also posted on my website. This work is inspired by my recent trip to ecuador. There are lots of iguanas in ecuador! They walk around the streets and they have an entire park just for them!

So I did this sketch a while ago like maybe 6 months.. it was a character for a nonprofit organization for a childrens book. This characters name is skillet. I also have some concept sketches... some place or another but I really liked the style of the character and the way that I interpreted him. So, I've decided to start drawing more children, just to see what I can come up with. Preferably children playing or in  some kind of action. This should also go great with my new children's portfolio.  (just fyi, the childrens book never went through all the way to being published. However I do not regret it because it was a great experience drawing in a direction I never even thought of going before. It also was one of the projects that helped inspire me to start drawing for children books. Just a lesson that nothing that you experience in life never goes to waste! Even though nothing great happened out of it another door opened and I arrived at something even greater)

Flamingo Sketches

Here are some flamingo sketches I worked on for a little bit today just as for my sketch of the day. I may go in and color the whole body just because I love the pink and orange shade colors in a flamingo are so beautiful, as well as the facial expressions.

I finished my elephant! This is an illustration for "The Elephant Ryhme" a traditional nursery ryhme. I still need to flatten the paper a little more so i can get a better scan. I'll be added the finished piece with type to my website, which should also be published some time next week. I have finally finished it. Just have to work on  forwarding  my domain. I also finished the piece that I previously posted of the bear in the park. The final for that will also be out when my web page is published.

The Lion and the Unicorn

I've been drawing a lot more lately. doing more concept sketching trying to improve on my drawing skills, and as you know I have been working a lot on my children's portfolio. As I keep working the more I realize how much I love illustrating animals. Here's another nursery rhyme I'll be illustrating called the lion and the unicorn. This is one of my first concept sketches so its definitely not going to be my final. I want to play with exaggeration in the characters, trying to make it look really magical. so maybe ill just zoom in on the faces of each animal or play with dimensions. Because now i feel it looks really boring.

The Tortoise and the Hare character concepts

One of my favorite stories growing up was the tortoise and the hare. So since I've been working on my children's portfolio I've decided to illustrate a cover and maybe the whole story if I can find the time. Here's just some face expression sketches of the tortoise and the hare. More to come soon.
